French as a foreign language (FLE)

As the majority of our courses are taught in French, fluency in the language of Molière is important for the success of international students studying at Centrale Lille. It is also a vehicle for integration within the student population and more broadly into French society.

To consolidate this linguistic preparation, Centrale Lille organises mandatory teaching of French as a foreign language (FLE) for its international students throughout the year, whatever their starting level. This teaching is evaluated and valued by the award of ECTS credits, as well as by the validation of the DELF B2 for double degree students.

A team of experienced and fully qualified teachers

The courses are taught by teachers who are experienced in teaching French as a foreign language, in intercultural aspects, and in the expectations of the professional world. The teaching of linguistic aspects focuses on the student’s integration and cultural adaptation. The teachers draw on the experience of professionals (engineers, company directors, managers, etc.) to offer courses that are as close as possible to the realities and expectations of the working world. Students are also offered individual support if they so wish, and tutoring is available for those who need it.

Engaging and practical instruction based on the best pedagogical practices

Ahead of the official start of the new academic year, FLE courses and French culture modules are organised for incoming students to help them start their studies under the best possible conditions.

FLE courses are taught in small groups, during this pre-entry and then throughout the year. Interactivity and oral expression are favoured in class, while written tasks are favoured outside class. Students are encouraged to participate in every class, fostering a supportive and respectful environment.

In addition to FLE courses, a platform, Go Fluent, enables students to enhance their knowledge independently, according to their specific written or oral needs.

Activities beyond the classroom

The aim of FLE courses is to go beyond language teaching. For example, the different festivities in the calendar offer students opportunities to combine tastings with cultural experiences (Yule Logs, King’s Cakes, among others)When the situation allows, outings organised by student associations are used in lessons. Social events are organised (welcome cocktails, international days, cheese tastings, regional specialities tastings, etc.).
