Preparation for mathematics for engineering

You will soon be joining École Centrale de Lille in the 1st year of your engineering degree programme as part of a double degree with your home university. We congratulate you on this excellent choice and look forward to welcoming you here. Before doing so, we would like to make you aware of an aspect that can sometimes pose difficulties for new international students: the teaching of mathematics for engineering.

Experience has shown us that it is very important for you to prepare yourself now and before you arrive, because the way mathematics is taught in France is quite different from the way it is taught elsewhere, and you are expected to master both the specialised vocabulary and the mathematical tools commonly used.

This applies in particular to integral calculus and differential equations.

To help you prepare this summer, here are some teaching aids recommended by the teaching team in charge of the Analysis for Engineers course that you will be taking in the 1st semester of your 1st year.
