Pre-arrival preparation in language & science

Dear future Centrale Lille students,

In a few months’ time, you will be joining our school as part of a study mobility program between your home university and Centrale Lille (École Centrale de Lille or ENSCL). We look forward to welcoming you and accompanying you on this enriching adventure.

Language preparation
In addition to the level tests required for your visa, a good command of the French language is fundamental to your academic success and integration at Centrale Lille. A B1 level is expected and will be verified by us before the final admission letter is sent. We strongly advise you to start or continue learning French as soon as possible.

Mathematics preparation (for students coming to École Centrale de Lille)
The teaching of mathematics for engineers can sometimes pose difficulties for new international students. It’s very important that you prepare well and sufficiently in advance of your departure, as the way mathematics is taught in France is quite different from what is practiced elsewhere. You are expected to master both the specialized vocabulary and the mathematical tools and concepts commonly used.

Preparation for the Advanced Algorithms and Programming course (for students coming to École Centrale de Lille)
As with Mathematics for Engineers, computer science prerequisites, which are now commonplace in the French curriculum (lycée and classes préparatoires) and are not necessarily taught in schools abroad, will be necessary to follow the Advanced Algorithms and Programming course. So it’s important that you brush up your skills before you arrive.

To help you, we’ve put together some advice and resources recommended by our teaching teams. Don’t hesitate to consult them to prepare yourself as well as possible.

We look forward to meeting you at Centrale Lille!
